Summary

This Data Release accompanies the publication, "Paleogene sedimentary basin development in southern Nevada, USA" by Lundstern and others (2024) in the journal Lithosphere. Included here are U-Pb detrital zircon and Ar/Ar feldspar geochronologic data for middle Cenozoic sedimentary and volcanic rocks collected by Jens-Erik Lundstern and Theresa M. Schwartz in several parts of southern Nevada, U.S. The target strata are the lowest Cenozoic sedimentary rocks deposited above the base-Cenozoic unconformity. Purpose

These data were collected to provide maximum and minimum depositional age constraints for the middle Cenozoic sedimentary rocks preserved above the base-Cenozoic unconformity in several parts of southern Nevada. These data can be used as reliable absolute ages for the sedimentary and volcanic rocks at the designated sample localities. The 40Ar/39Ar feldspar ages from volcanic samples roughly correspond to the time when those rocks were erupted. The U-Pb detrital zircon data from sedimentary rocks represent ages of individual grains from multiple different sources that were deposited together before being lithified. All data can be used without restriction, but the data sources should be properly cited. Users should carefully examine the dataset to determine its limitations, including uncertainty ranges.
