Summary

A Bell 407 helicopter with a gyro-stabilized gimbal was used to collect aerial videos of Illinois River Water Science basin riverine study sites on June 7, 2022. Videos were collected during three flights on June 7, 2022 and focused on study sites along the Illinois River near Starved Rock. The videos are in a natural color camera channel (CH_1) and a thermal infrared camera channel (CH_2).

Helicopter-based videos were collected to support a USGS Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) research project in the Illinois River basin. The project aims to evaluate the potential to estimate river surface flow velocities from aerial imagery.
