Summary

A Geographic Information System (GIS) shapefile and summary tables of the extent of irrigated agricultural land-use are provided for eleven counties fully or partially within the St. Johns River Water Management District (full-county extents of: Brevard, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Indian River, Nassau, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns, and Volusia counties). These files were compiled through a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of Agricultural Water Policy. Information provided in the shapefile includes the location of irrigated lands that were verified during field surveying that started in November 2022 and concluded in August 2023. Field data [...]

Purpose

The data release provides a detailed digital field-verified shapefile of irrigated agricultural land-use of 11 counties that are fully or partially within the St. Johns River Water Management District, Florida and a table summarizing the results for field trips from November 2022 and August 2023 to verify crop types and irrigation method. The land-use shapefile and acreage tables produced for this study were compared to the Florida Statewide Agricultural Irrigation Demand (FSAID) Irrigated Lands Geodatabase (IGL), version IX (The Balmoral Group, 2022) totals for 11 counties that are fully or partially within the St. Johns River Water Management District. Field-verified data on crop type, irrigated lands, and acreage summaries provide FDACS a more accurate basis for estimating current and future water demands.
