Summary

This dataset contains biocrust lichen and moss cover at 186 plots at Horse Heaven Hills in Washington, USA. These data were measured by Jeanne Ponzetti in 1999 and remeasured by Heather Root in 2020. In addition to the biocrust data, we include site data such as elevation, location, wildfire history, and cover classes of dominant plants, rock and soil.

Purpose

The original data were collected to develop an inventory of biocrusts in the area and explore their ecological associations. The site was revisited later to assess changes, particularly in relation to wildfires. These data could be used in the future to further assess changes in the biocrust community or in broader analyses combined with other data to examine broad-scale patterns in biocrust communities.
