Purpose

Sprague Dawley rats were exposed to aerosolized dust (silica, China Lake, and Afghanistan) by collaborators at the Naval Medical Research Unit in Dayton, OH. Formalin fixed paraffin embedded lung tissue from 12 exposed rats was provided to USGS for particle analysis by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS).
