Summary

This data release includes metadata and tabular data that documents initial water conditions (temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen and salinity) during an aquarium-based pilot study aimed to determine the survival of fish exposed to carbon dioxide (CO2) gas treatment. These results were used as a basis for conducting a larger aquarium study aimed to test the efficacy of CO2 as a tool for managing invasive fish in anchialine pools.

Purpose

Data were collected to document aquarium water conditions prior to beginning trials aimed to determine survival of invasive fish exposed to low levels of pH following release of CO2 gas into the water. These results were from a pilot study aimed to identify pH levels that are likely to affect the targeted fish species. Results from this pilot study were used to develop treatment protocols used in a larger study that followed the pilot study. The overall aim of the study was to evaluate if CO2 can be used to eradicate invasive fish from anchialine pools. Results from this study can provide park managers with information to better understand how CO2 can be used to manage invasive fish in anchialine pools.
