Summary

This dataset includes information from 59 prairie pothole wetlands in Minnesota, collected in 2019 and 2020. The data includes wetland characteristics (e.g., size, depth, plant biomass, and water quality), multiple fish metrics, and multiple amphipod metrics. The amphipod species include Gammarus lacustris and Hyalella azteca. There are 22 species of fish recorded.

Purpose

Fishes have spread into previously fishless wetlands, likely impacting other species. In the Prairie Pothole Region of North America, the invasion of fish into wetlands is facilitated by interactions of altered land use, climate, and hydrology. We aimed to understand the impacts of fishes on amphipods, a wetland macroinvertebrate group that many wildlife species rely on. Our study design targeted a large gradient of amphipod abundances among wetlands, including very high abundances of amphipods.
