Summary

The Spor Mountain study area is located in the Spor Mountain Range, approximately 42 miles northwest of Delta, Utah. Mining in the Spor Mountain district began in the 1940s and continues to present day. Fluorspar, uranium, and beryllium are the main ores mined(Ege, 2005). From August through September 2013, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) collected a total of 73 samples from abandoned mine wastepiles, channel sediments downslope of wastepiles, and background areas. The samples were sieved to obtain the less than 177 micron fraction. Geochemical analyses were completed through a third-party contract by General Society of Surveillance (SGS) with method ICM40B - Fifty-five major (except Si and Na), rare earth, and trace elements [...]

Purpose

Data were collected to analyze the elemental composition of sediment in abandoned wastepiles. The results of these analysis are released to the public through this dataset.
