Summary

Potential wetland extents were estimated for 12 river reaches covering approximately 750 river miles in Indiana. The study was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). This study follows and adds to the work completed in the pilot study (Kim and others, 2012) and shows that potential wetland extents can be estimated using streamflow statistics, streamgage data, and flood-inundation mapping techniques. Purpose

This data release presents the data sets used in the calculations to estimate the potential wetland extents for 12 river reaches in Indiana and parts of Ohio and Illinois. All 12 stream reaches were graphically analyzed using historical flood profiles. Historical flood events and and high-water marks were used as supplemental data for three reaches. GIS data files and associated metadata for each of the 12 river reaches are available in this data release.
