This dataset contains annual agricultural groundwater pumping values in 1975 for Doña Ana County; in 1980, 1985, 1990, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2010 for Doña Ana and Sierra Counties; and in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 for the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District in New Mexico. Groundwater pumping values were extracted from Sorensen (1977), Sorensen (1982), Wilson (1986), Wilson (1992), Wilson and Lucero (1998), Wilson and others (2003), Longworth and others (2008), Stangl (2010), Longworth and others (2013), Serrano (2014), and Serrano (2015). Groundwater pumping values are presented in units of acre-feet.

This dataset was used to develop groundwater pumping observations for calibration of annual agricultural groundwater pumping in New Mexico simulated by the Rio Grande Transboundary Integrated Hydrologic Model (RGTIHM) for the years in which data were available. New Mexico Office of the State Engineer (NMOSE) estimates of agricultural groundwater pumping for the entire Doña Ana County were used, as Doña Ana County encompasses the majority of the active RGTIHM area. NMOSE estimates of agricultural groundwater pumping for the portion of Sierra County in the active RGTIHM area were also used when available. Otherwise, NMOSE estimates of agricultural groundwater pumping for the entire Sierra County were not used, as Sierra County encompasses a small portion of the active RGTIHM area and using these values would result in an overestimation of agricultural pumping within the RGTIHM. NMOSE estimates of agricultural groundwater pumping for the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District in New Mexico were used, as the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District encompasses most of the active RGTIHM area in New Mexico [see Hanson and others (2018) for the extent of the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District]. The Lower Rio Grande Water Master District includes portions of Doña Ana and Sierra Counties not within the active RGTIHM area. However, agricultural groundwater pumping estimates for the entire Doña Ana County and the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District were assumed to be comparable based on a review of aerial imagery (Environmental Systems Research Institute, 2016) that indicated minimal current (2016) agricultural fields in areas of Doña Ana County and the Lower Rio Grande Water Master District outside the RGTIHM active area.
