This USGS data release presents data collected during surveys of nearshore bathymetry and beach topography from the Columbia River littoral cell, Washington and Oregon. This USGS data release presents data collected during surveys of nearshore bathymetry and beach topography from the Columbia River littoral cell, Washington and Oregon. Survey operations were conducted between August 13 and 31, 2018 (USGS Field Activity Number 2018-652-FA) by a team of scientists from the U.S. Geological Survey Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center, Washington State Department of Ecology, and Oregon State University.
Nearshore bathymetry data were collected using four personal watercraft (PWCs), each equipped with single-beam echosounders and survey-grade global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). Topography data were collected by walking along survey lines with GNSS receivers mounted on backpacks. Additional topographic data were collected between survey lines in some areas with an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) equipped with a GNSS receiver to constrain the elevations and alongshore extent of major morphological features. Positions of the survey platforms were referenced to a GNSS base station placed on a nearby benchmark with known horizontal and vertical coordinates. Depths from the echosounders were computed using sound velocity profiles measured with a conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD) sensor during the survey. Figure 1 shows the locations of bathymetric- and topographic-survey lines, sound velocity profile measurements, and GNSS base stations used for geodetic control during the survey.

Purpose
Data were obtained to document interannual changes in shoreline position and coastal morphology. These data are intended for science researchers, students, policy makers, and the general public. These data can be used with geographic information systems or other software to identify topographic and shallow-water bathymetric features.
