The attached files contain color transparencies, color prints and black and white prints of daily activities on the floating research station, Fletcher's Ice Island (T-3) in the Arctic Ocean during 1968-1969. The photographs were taken by Dave Scoboria, who was the only USGS presence on the island and solely responsible for the measurements. The attached files contain color transparencies, color prints and black and white prints of daily activities on the floating research station, Fletcher's Ice Island (T-3) in the Arctic Ocean during 1968-1969.
The photographs were taken by Dave Scoboria, who was the only USGS presence on the island and solely responsible for the measurements.

Dave Scoboria grew up in rural Pennsylvania, and as a boy he dreamed of going to the Arctic. After graduation from high school in 1968, he lived for eleven months, from November 13, 1968 through May 1, 1969, then from June 1, 1969 through October 3, 1969, on Fletcher's Ice Island (T-3), a floating research station in the central Arctic Ocean, where he worked as a field technician for the U.S. Geological Survey.
He later attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon, picked fruit for a living for several years and graduated in 1976 with a BA from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. He worked for 20 years as a union carpenter and construction superintendent on commercail projects. In 2001 he and his wife, Linda, founded Scoboria Construction, Inc., a commerical general contracting company in Bellingham, Washington.
They retired in 2019 and currently live in rural Whatcom County, Washington. There they watch birds, monitor the local wildlife with trail cameras and grow tall sunflowers.
