Summary

This tabular dataset is compiled surface-water diversion data from the West Walker River in Smith Valley, Nevada, and the East Walker, West Walker, and Walker Rivers in Mason Valley, Nevada, 1931-2020. Data for 1931-1995 are compiled from Pahl (2000), data for 1996-2011 from C. Garner (Desert Research Institute, written commun., 2020), and data for 2012-2020 from B. Bryan (Walker River Irrigation District, written commun., 2021). Data were compiled directly from data sources without alteration.

Purpose

These datasets were created as part of a 2022 cooperative study by the U.S. Geological Survey with the Bureau of Reclamation and U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of pumping on groundwater storage and stream efficiency of the Walker River in Smith Valley and Mason Valley, Nevada. The intended uses of this dataset include, but are not limited to, natural resource modeling, mapping, and visualization applications.
