This digital dataset contains historical geochemical and other information for 481 samples of produced water (PW) from 408 sites in the Edison, Mountain View, and Ant Hill Oil Fields in Kern County, California. Produced water is a term used in the oil industry to describe water that is produced from oil wells as a byproduct along with the oil and gas. The locations from which these historical samples have been collected include 199 wells, 67 sumps, 43 storage tanks (not associated with a specific well), and 104 unidentifiable sample sources which could not be classified because of insufficient information. One phenomenon that has been shown to concentrate and release per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in surface water is the formation of natural foams. For surface water foams to form, surface active compounds or surfactants must be present in the water along with a source of gas bubbles. Some examples of surface-active compounds include humic and fulvic acids, colloidal particles, and lipids and proteins. The relationship between PFAS and dissolved organic matter (DOM) is important because studies have shown that DOM can affect PFAS fate and bioavailability in aquatic systems and treatment processes. This data release provides updated borehole information to build upon and further refine a three-dimensional (3-D) texture model of valley-fill deposits in the Central Valley created by Faunt and others (2009). This model aids in understanding the aquifer system of the entire valley and will be later utilized in a groundwater flow model. The original database contained approximately 8,500 boreholes and with the addition of new data, the model now contains 14,683 boreholes. The Cache Creek Settling Basin (CCSB) is a 13.3 km2 levee-bounded sediment retention basin located at the modern terminus of Cache Creek near the eastern boundary of Yolo County, approximately two miles NE of Woodland, California. The Cache Creek Settling Basin was constructed in 1937 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to trap suspended sediment from the upper Cache Creek watershed during high-flow events, with the purpose of preserving the floodway capacity of the Yolo Bypass, a larger leveed floodway located downstream. These sites were used to assess groundwater quality in aquifers used for domestic and public drinking water supply in the southeastern San Joaquin Valley. This data set contains estimates of bedload transport entering San Francisco Bay from the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Bedload was estimated following the methods of van Rijn (1984) for the Sacramento River at Rio Vista (USGS 11455420) and the San Joaquin River at Jersey Point (USGS 11337190). The inputs the van Rijn (1984) equations included:bed-material particle size, bed-form dimensions, depth, and velocity. Here we report optical data collected as part of a collaborative study between USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Water Mission Area Proxies Project. The optical measurements reported here were collected to aide in the characterization of water sources and mixtures and establish proxies (surrogates) for per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances within the Neshaminy Creek basin. Data are compiled into three tables: 1) full fluorescence spectra in vectorized format, 2) full absorbance spectra, and 3) summary file of commonly extracted optical indicators and field-based sensor arrays.

This digital dataset contains groundwater level observations for 364 wells, in addition to well construction information, from 1916 to 2014 in the Central Valley, California. Groundwater level observations are used to create groundwater level contours and to calibrate the groundwater levels for the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2). The original Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM) did not simulate tile drain discharge in the west side of the San Joaquin Valley. The updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) does simulate on-farm drains. The data for the drain flow and locations were obtained from the Berkeley National Laboratory is from (WESTSIM2) (N. Quinn, Berkeley National Laboratory, written communication., 2010). This component of the data release includes:e (1) three datasets included are a spreadsheet of the available observations with the drain flows in acre-ft/month, (2) a shapefile of the WESTSIM2 drain cells, and (3) a shapefile of the original WESTSIM2 drain cells translated to the CVHM2 model grid.

This data release contains a digital geospatial dataset generated by the U.S. Geological Survey under a cooperative agreement with the Water Replenishment District of Southern California to characterize the three-dimensional hydrogeology of the Los Angeles Coastal Plain. The updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) is similar to the original Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM) in terms of the basic units of model discretization. Both versions simulated monthly stress periods on the same one square mile cell spatial discretization. Although the simulation period for CVHM1 was water years 1962-2003, the CVHM2 simulation period is water years 1962-2019. Both CVHM and CVHM2 have a 6 month spin up period from April-September of 1961. The CVHM2 is now composed of 13 layers compared to the ten in the CVHM.
