The US Geological Survey Chesapeake Bay Watershed Land Cover Data Series, 2011 edition, (CBLCD-e11) consists of Level I Land Cover data for the years 1984, 1992, 2001, 2006 and 2011. It consists of a series of five 8-bit unsigned integer raster data files of 30 meter spatial resolution in Albers Conic Equal Area projection, NAD83 datum. The 1984 – 2006 data layers were created by aggregating most Level II Anderson classes of the USGS CBLCD Land Cover Data Series released in 2010 (Irani and Claggett, 2010).

Spectra are shown for dominant Everglades marshland covers of sawgrass ( Cladium jamaicense) and periphyton as well as common woody plants that boarder Everglades marshlands: willow ( Salix carliniana) and buttonbush ( Cephalanthus occidentalis). Three worksheets are provided in the file. The first (named Graphics) shows the data in line chart form. The second (ASD) shows the spectra in tabular form as collected by the instrument with values in nanometer regions 1800-1962 and 2400-2500 filtered out to reduce noise caused by atmospheric conditions. The third (TM5) contains the spectra as resampled to Landsat Thematic Mapper 5 bands to simulate what would be recorded by Landsat for those land covers. Two tables (nanometers...

To better understand how the land is changing and to relate those changes to water quality trends, the USGS funded the production of a Chesapeake Bay Watershed Land Cover Data Series (CBLCD) representing four dates: 1984, 1992, 2001, and 2006. These data were produced by MDA Federal Inc., under contract to the USGS and were derived from Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper and Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper satellite imagery. Each of the four datasets consists of 16 land use and land cover classes (Anderson, et al., 1976). The datasets are temporally comparable and encompass the entire Chesapeake Bay watershed and most intersecting counties. The 2001 dataset represents the base layer for the Data Series and is composed...

This posting contains field and satellite data collected in support of the scientific manuscript "Improved crop residue cover estimates by coupling spectral indices for residue and moisture." Quemada, M., W.D. Hively, C.S. Daughtry, B.T. Lamb, and J. Shermeyer. In review by Remote Sensing of Environment. In this study, field data were collected on May 15, 2015 and paired with reflectance data collected May 14th 2015. The manuscript compares portions of agricultural fields that were irrigated the day of imagery acquisitions with portions of the same fields not yet irrigated, using the contrast to derive a moisture correction algorithm for determination of percent crop residue cover. The data publication contains...

This posting contains the source climate and crop rotation data used to run the SWAT model in the Tuckahoe and Upper Choptank watersheds, Maryland. It also contains the monthly flow load data used for validation of model results. The data release was produced in compliance with the new 'open data' requirements as a way to make the scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. It is in support of a peer reviewed journal article titled "Assessing the impacts of future climate conditions on the effectiveness of winter cover crops in reducing nitrate loads into the Chesapeake bay watershed using SWAT model." The dataset consists of the following items: 1. Greensboro...

This dataset describes in stream turbidity for watersheds included in a paired watershed study including a forested reference watershed and three urban watersheds with centralized or decentralized stormwater management in Clarksburg, Maryland USA. Turbidity was monitoring from June 2010 to December 2010, March 2011 to December 2011 and June 2012 to October 2012 in For-MD and Cent-MD, and only the 2011-2012 time period in Dist-MD. Mean turbidity in NTU was recorded at 5-minute intervals during the 2010-2012 monitoring seasons with a Forest Technology Systems, Digital Turbidity Sensor DTS-12. Mean turbidity was computed from 100 instantaneous recordings during the time interval. Sensor accuracy is ±2% of reading (0-399...

The smoothed shoreline is based on the NOAA Continually Updated Shoreline Products (CUSP) found at: http://shoreline.noaa.gov/data/datasheets/cusp.html. The shoreline from Point Conception to LA Harbor was smoothed with a window of 400 m in ArcGIS 10.2.2. The smoothed shoreline was splited in 82 segments (ID range 1 to 82) and for each segment a buffer distance in meters was recorded in the attribute table (dist_buff column).

Stormwater runoff and associated pollutants from urban areas in the greater Chesapeake Bay Watershed (CBW) impair local streams and downstream ecosystems, despite urbanized land comprising only 7% of the CBW area. More recently, stormwater best management practices (BMPs) have been implemented in a low impact development (LID) manner to treat stormwater runoff closer to its source. This approach included the development of a novel BMP model to compare traditional and LID design, pioneering the use of comprehensively digitized storm sewer infrastructure and BMP design connectivity with spatial patterns in a geographic information system at the watershed scale. The goal was to compare total watershed pollutant removal...

This dataset describes baseflow and stormflow concentration data for the constituents of nitrogen and phosphorus and suspended sediments for watersheds included in a paired watershed study including a forested reference watershed and three urban watersheds with centralized or decentralized stormwater management in Clarksburg, Maryland USA. Surface water samples were collected between the years 2004-2016. These data are interpreted in a journal article published in the Journal of Environmental Management.

This dataset describes storm event loads (sediment and total particulate phosphorus), hydrologic metrics, and precipitation characteristics for storm events occurring between 2010-2012. Loads were estimated for four watersheds included in a paired watershed study; a forested reference watershed and three urban watersheds with centralized or decentralized stormwater management in Clarksburg, Maryland USA or Fairfax County, Virginia USA. Storm event loads were estimated from surrogate relations between turbidity and the water quality parameter of interest. Hydrologic metrics were determined for each storm event using the USGS stream gage instantaneous discharge record for each watershed. Precipitation event characteristics...

The data were derived from the shoreline published by NOAA Continually Updated Shoreline Product (CUSP) http://shoreline.noaa.gov/data/datasheets/cusp.html that was smoothed with a 400 m window in ArcGIS 10.2.2. An ID was provided and a buffer distance expressed in meters. The ID and buff_dist columns are part of the new shapefile attribute table.

This dataset shows land cover in the Upper Oconee watershed. The data layer primarily uses the 2011 National Land Cover Database (NLCD) but was manually edited to include 2,219 additional reservoirs. The reservoirs were identified and digitized using 2010 National Aerial Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery.
