Sonic velocity and density well logs in the Sacramento Valley in California were digitized by hand. These logs are available as scanned files (pdfs and tiffs) on the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources website and the data consist of transit times and bulk density measured downhole in oil and gas wells in the region. Sonic velocity and density data were also compiled from a number of sources. A summary table also provides basic information of these wells, available on the California Division of Oil, Gas, and Geothermal Resources website.

Data from 391 boreholes (including coreholes) that penetrated buried pre-Cretaceous basement rocks that lie beneath Atlantic Coastal Plain sedimentary deposits in Georgia and South Carolina were compiled from non-proprietary, mostly published sources in order to support subsurface geologic mapping, geologic interpretation of geophysical data (aeromagnetic, gravity, seismic), topical studies as in geochronology, and applications ranging from mineral, energy, and water resources to earthquake hazards in the Charleston seismic zone. Most of the entries are based on previous literature. In a few cases where noted, drill cores or cuttings were examined for basic geologic observations. Boreholes into bedrock beneath the...

These datasets provide early estimates of 2024 fractional cover for exotic annual grass (EAG) species and one native perennial grass species on a weekly basis from April to late June. Typically, the EAG estimates are publicly released within 7-13 days of the latest satellite observation used for that version. Each weekly release contains five fractional cover maps along with their corresponding confidence maps for: 1) a group of 16 species of EAGs, 2) cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum); 3) Field Brome (Bromus arvensis); 4) medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae); and 5) Sandberg bluegrass (Poa secunda). These datasets were generated leveraging field observations from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Assessment, Inventory,...
We summarized annual remote sensing land cover classifications from the U.S. Geological Survey Land Cover Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection (LCMAP) annual time series to characterize the frequency of forest change across the conterminous United States (CONUS) between 1985-2020. Data include a raster map of CONUS with pixel values representing the number of years in which it was classified as forest across the annual LCMAP time series (0-36), as well as tabular data summarizing forest change by area and proportion for each of the 48 conterminous U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Tabular output includes information on 1) the area classified as forest in each State by year, 2) the forest area in each frequency...

Current models do not sufficiently explain target rock-projectile mixing and ejecta blanket formation for small impact craters (i.e., <2km diameter). For example, due to the size of Meteor Crater and the low-velocity at which materials were excavated from the transient crater, the extent of target rock-projectile mixing is expected to be minor. However, based on drilling notes from Dr. David Roddy and preliminary work done at the USGS, we found lithologic mixing is much more prevalent throughout the ejecta blanket. We have used the USGS Meteor Crater sample collection to investigate the internal stratigraphy and spatial distribution of impact-generated materials in the ejecta blanket to better understand cratering...

The data are 475 thematic land cover raster’s at 2m resolution. Land cover classification was to the land cover classes: Tree (1), Water (2), Barren (3), Other Vegetation (4) and Ice & Snow (8). Cloud cover and Shadow were sometimes coded as Cloud (5) and Shadow (6), however for any land cover application would be considered NoData. Some raster’s may have Cloud and Shadow pixels coded or recoded to NoData already. Commercial high-resolution satellite data was used to create the classifications. Usable image data for the target year (2010) was acquired for 475 of the 500 primary sample locations, with 90% of images acquired within ±2 years of the 2010 target. The remaining 25 of the 500 sample blocks had no usable...

We have dated a boulder field in Zepp, VA using cosmogenic Be-10 exposure dating. Three samples taken from boulders at three elevations in the boulder field (804 m asl, 818 m asl, and 831 m asl) were processed at the Reston Cosmogenic Nuclide (RECON) Lab and measured via accelerator mass spectrometry at the Purdue Rare Isotope Measurement (PRIME) Lab. The results of this work are summarized in the file “Zepp_Exposure_Beryllium10_Odom.csv”. This file contains all relevant sample location data, as well as input variables for exposure age calculations. We employed the CRONUS v.3 exposure age calculator (Balco et al., 2008) to estimate exposure ages for these samples and report exposure ages derived using the LSDn time-dependent...

The Upper Cretaceous Coon Creek Formation type locality in McNairy County, Tennessee, has long been known to be an exceptional marine invertebrate lagerstattäte that was deposited in a nearshore reentrant into the ancestral continent of Appalachia. Extensive taxonomic analysis of the macrofauna over the past 100 years includes documentation of swimming reptiles, fish, marine invertebrates, and plant material. However, documentation of the palynomorph and calcareous microfossil component at the type locality has never been done. This data set provides analysis of calcareous microfossils (benthic and planktic foraminifera, calcareous nannofossils, and ostracods) and palynomorphs (pollen, spores, algal remains, and...
