In cooperation with Dallas Water Utilities (DWU), the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measures nutrient and major-ion concentrations in selected reservoirs in north Texas. This data release documents water-quality data obtained from Ray Hubbard Lake, Grapevine Lake, Ray Roberts Lake, and Lake Lewisville during water years 2016-20. In addition to nutrient and major-ion concentrations, water-quality field properties and other selected constituents measured in the water-quality samples collected from these reservoirs are documented. The movement of sediment in channels along beaches and the nearshore environment is important for coastal stakeholders and resource managers. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the HarrisāGalveston Subsidence District, City of Houston, and the Fort Bend Subsidence District, produced a dataset through 2022 of compaction values in the Chicot and Evangeline aquifers in the greater Houston area, Texas. This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release provides phytoplankton data collected from 18 Texas reservoirs during August through October, 2016. All data are reported as raw calculated values and are not rounded to USGS significant figures. This data release was produced in compliance with the open data requirements as a way to make scientific products associated with USGS research efforts and publications available to the public. The dataset includes all routine and quality assurance/quality control samples collected at each of the sites. Phytoplankton were identified to the lowest possible taxonomic level and abundance (density reported as both natural units and cells) and biovolume are reported.
A comprehensive study of water quality in two streams was conducted in the Midwestern United States in 1999 to 2003. The Iroquois River and Sugar Creek, located in northwestern Indiana and northeastern Illinois have been heavily impacted by agricultural land use and contain relatively high concentrations of inorganic nitrogen, primarily as nitrate. As part of that study, samples were collected and analyzed for dissolved methane and nitrous oxide concentrations to determine greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations in the streams and the relation of GHG concentrations to concentrations of other inorganic nitrogen species in the water. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center, in cooperation with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, updated basin-characteristic data for Oklahoma streams with drainage areas of less than 2,510 square miles. Basin characteristics were updated or created for 248 streamgages. The previously published Oklahoma generalized skew map, a necessary element in the development of the peak-streamflow frequencies was updated.
