The mating and reproductive ecology of the invasive Brown Treesnake (Boiga irregularis) were generated by reconstructing a multigenerational genomic pedigree based on 654 single nucleotide polymorphisms for a geographically-closed population established in 2004 on Guam (N=426). The pedigree allowed annual estimates of individual mating and reproductive success to be inferred for snakes in the study population over a 14-year period. These data are then merged with morphological data on each snake.

Manually photo-processed remote camera trap data of Brown Treesnakes on Guam at snake traps with live mouse lures. Records of snakes entering the field of view (FOV) and exiting the FOV by day, time, and trap location. Photos were further processed to retain only detections of snakes up to 1.83 meters from the camera, i.e., only records of snakes that were on or in front of the mouse-lure trap are retained in the data file.

Individual identification is required for investigations that examine population-level changes (e.g., decreased survival, increased disease prevalence) and the mechanisms associated with these changes in wild populations. Such identification generally requires the application of a unique mark, or the documentation of characteristics unique to each individual animal. Marking strategies that minimize handling time (representing stress), and thus minimize impacts to populations, are encouraged from scientific, as well as ethical, perspectives. We used passive integrated transponder (PIT) tagging and photography to individually identify Boreal toads (Anaxyrus boreas boreas) in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado...

Certain species of tree-dwelling bats die after colliding with the moving blades of industrial wind turbines. Based on the speculation that these bats approach turbines after visually mistaking them for trees, we tested a potential light-based deterrence method. It is likely that the affected bats see ultraviolet (UV) light at low intensities. Here, we present the results of a multi-month experiment to cast dim, flickering UV light across wind turbine surfaces at night and concurrently monitored bat, bird, and insect activity using a thermal-imaging surveillance camera. This data release consists of a file of tabular digital data that includes nightly counts of bat, bird, and insect detections derived from thermal...

A survey of environmental DNA was performed in Tunison Creek downstream of the USGS Tunison Aquatic Laboratory. The goal of the survey was to characterize the source ecological community at multiple trophic or taxonomic levels by associating DNA fragments with reference databases. Three taxonomically informative genetic loci were used: the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 locus, the mitochondrial 12S ribosomal locus, and the bacterial/organellar 16S ribosomal locus. The data set includes a list of sample and sequence accessions residing in the National Center for Biotechnology Information databases, which provide the raw data for analysis or re-use. The data also includes the representative sequences of operational...

This study generated genetic 'barcode' data using high-throughput sequencing to characterize pollen collected by the endangered rusty-patched bumblebee, Bombus affinis. Pollen samples were associated with a single Bombus affinis colony within a structure in Red Wing, Minnesota, USA, as previously described by Boone et al. (2022). This data release consists of two tab-delimited files: 1) sample.metadata.txt includes sample identifiers and accessions assigned by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), the authoritative repository for publicly funded genetic data in the United States. These accessions can be used individually to obtain raw sequencing data or sample information at www.ncbi.nih.nlm.gov....

This dataset contains sample collection information and SNP genotypes for populations of Gunnison Sage-grouse across the species' range. This data was collected in order to examine patterns of adaptive genetic variation in Gunnison Sage-grouse. The data is archived in GenBank at the following URL https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/517770.

The data frame provides geo-referenced data on presence of six species of en route migrant shorebirds in wetlands within the prairie pothole region in the U.S. during the spring migration periods of 2002 and 2012. Surveys were conducted at wetlands within townships selected in a stratified random procedure, with strata based on landscape composition of agricultural cropland and total area of wetlands.

The dataset consists of two spreadsheets that contain brown treesnake data (location, perch taxa, perch height, time of detection, whether visible or not, and size of snake) collected during both visual surveys and radio telemetry within a 55-ha enclosure on Guam.

The data contained in this report was compiled, modified, and analyzed for the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI) Integrated Assessment (IA). The WLCI is a long-term science based effort to assess and enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitats at a landscape scale in southwest Wyoming while facilitating responsible energy development through local collaboration and partnerships. The IA is an integrated synthesis and analysis of WLCI resource values based on best available data and information collected from multiple agencies and organizations. It is a support tool for landscape-scale conservation planning and evaluation, and a data and analysis resource that can be used for addressing specific management...

Information on the biophysical features of federal lands identified as suitable for transfer to the State of Colorado was requested by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This information is intended for use in conducting an environmental assessment prior to transfer of ownership (conveyance) to the State. The Enabling Act of 1864 provided for the conveyance of federal lands to the State for the support of schools. If designated lands were unavailable for transfer at the time of statehood, the Act provided for the transfer of alternative federal lands in compensation, using a process referred to as “school-land indemnity selection.” To initiate indemnity selection, the Colorado State Board of Land Commissioners...

The "Biophysical assessment for indemnity selection of federal lands in Colorado: Potential species of management concern" dataset summarizes the species (federally threatened or endangered species, Colorado Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sensitive species, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Birds of Conservation Concern, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife big game species) that have the potential for occurrence within 89 Indemnity Units. The Indemnity Units are federal lands, currently managed by the BLM, under consideration for transfer to the State of Colorado in compensation for federal lands not available for transfer at the time of statehood. We compiled information on documented occurrences, habitat (seasonal,...

We measured polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) concentrations in two taxa of riparian spiders from nine sites in 2011 at the Ashtabula River Area of Concern. We analyzed the extracts for 122 congeners following EPA method SW846 Method 8270D using gas chromatography mass spectrometry in the selective ion monitoring (SIM) mode. All target compounds were quantified using the method of internal standards, and all results were reported in ng/g (parts per billion) wet weight. Congener concentrations were summed to arithmetically calculate totals for individual homolog groups (groups of congeners that share the same number of chlorine atoms on the biphenyl ring) and for total PCBs. The samples were also analyzed for lipid...

4 aerial photographs were taken along the Little Missouri River in 1974. All images were geo-referenced to the 1995 digital orthophoto quarter quadrangles as described by Miller and Friedman (2009). Both the flood plain and active channel of the river were delineated on the 1995 digital orthophoto quadrangles and overlaid on rectified photos. ArcGIS was used to draw the polygons that delineate the flood plain and active channel; the delineation was saved as a SHP file. The separate images (geoTIFFs) can be viewed as a composite along with that year's channel delineation (SHP file) using a geographic information system (GIS) application. Reference: Miller, J.R., and J.M. Friedman. 2009. Influence of flow variability...

These geospatial data characterize the potential for geographic overlap among areas likely to experience climate drying (aridification) and high intensity land-use with population growth, recreation tourism, agriculture, energy development, and mining on the Colorado Plateau. Spatial overlap between areas of high land-use intensity and aridification were used to create scenarios and corresponding consensus maps for areas with high potential to experience detrimental effects to ecosystem attributes (recreation economy, water availability, vegetation and wildlife habitat, and spiritual and cultural resources). This analytical framework for assessing the potential impacts of overlapping land-use and climate change...
