This is the qPCR and loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) data in support of the article "Validation of a portable eDNA detection kit for invasive carps". There are four types of data contained in five files including: limit of detection analysis for each method (qPCR and LAMP), qPCR analysis and LAMP analysis of eDNA samples collected over time from ponds containing 3 or 33 Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) mixed with thousands of baitfish. The standards and controls data collected with the eDNA sample analysis are split into separate files for each method to simplify the statistical analysis of the eDNA sample data.

These datasets (e.g., 'Starved Rock fish clearing_multi-beam imaging sonar fish data_Pre-clearing_Sonar-s1.csv') include exported information (e.g., fish detection counts) from processed fixed-location multi-beam imaging sonar and mobile side-scan sonar data. Fish abundance in the navigation lock was determined using mobile side-scan surveys, while multi-beam imaging sonars were used to determine fish counts relative to time (i.e., fish per minute). The datasets were used to examine the efficacy of electricity and underwater acoustics, used in tandem, to affect fish abundance (as determined by hydroacoustic data sampling).

The dataset and accompanying analysis scripts accompany the article "Bayesian multistate models allow incorporation of spatial dynamics to improve invasive species management". The data are summarized detections from acoustic telemetry receivers (69 KHz) from 353 silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) and 170 bighead carp (H. nobilis) surgically implanted with transmitters in the Illinois River, USA. The analysis scripts assess probability of detection, probability of monthly movement between navigation pools on the river, probability of apparent survival, and probability of operable transmitter battery through a Bayesian multistate hidden Markov model. A high-resolution sidescan image of the Mississippi River, Lock and Dam 19 approach (downstream) was collected with a Humminbird Solix. Side-imaging sonar creates an image of underwater riverbed features by measuring the intensity of acoustic reflections. This mega side-imaging sonar data was collected and mosaicked to capture more detailed information on the condition of the lock approach to provide information for the construction and deployment of an underwater acoustic deterrent system.

A backscatter raster generated from multibeam bathymetry and terrestrial lidar collected simultaneously on November 14, 2019. Backscatter is the reflection of a signal and can help when determining bottom types. Harder bottom types (like rock) reflect more sound than softer bottom types (like mud), and smoother bottom types reflect more sound than rugged bottom types.

This data is toxicity data for fish exposed to thiram. The number of trials and species used are: 8 trials on Bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis), 8 trials on Bluegill Sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus), 4 trials on Fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas), 5 trials on Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), and 7 trials on Silver Carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix). The drc package from the R software was used to create an on-line web application. The combination of the web application and the toxicity data collected was used to suggest thiram, a fungicide, would be a selective toxiciant for bighead carp.

This product is a media player application and user guide. The application generates set-interval and random-interval media play schedules. When the application is used to execute the play schedule, it creates its own metadata documentation. The Carp Media Player documents the intended play schedule, generates a real-time log of the media played, and documents if there were any interruptions.

The goal of this study was to develop and examine whether a management bait that can be used for selective control of grass carp. Our objectives were to 1) quantify the water-based 24-h LC50 of Antimycin-A for grass carp and rainbow trout, 2) quantify the 96-h LD50 of orally administered Antimycin-A laden bait for grass carp and rainbow trout, 3) quantify the leaching rate of Antimycin-A from the bait in water, and 4) determine if a management bait laden with Antimycin-A will be consumed by grass carp and cause lethality in the laboratory. To meet our objectives, Antimycin-A was encapsulated in a wax microparticle similar to Poole et al. (2018) and incorporated into a rapeseed bait for oral gavage feeding and consumption...

Silver and bighead carp frequency detection was evaluated in response to 100 Hz to 9 kHz using auditory evoked potentials (AEPs). AEPs, consisting of measured minimum Sound Pressure Levels (SPL; dB re 1 ms-2) and Particle Acceleration Thresholds (PAT; dB re 1 ms-2). SPL and PAT were recorded every 100 Hz from 100 Hz to 1000 Hz plus 1500, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 Hz for five individual Silver Carp and five individual Bighead Carp. Minimum detectable PAT and SPLs were measured at 100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 2000, 4000, and 5000 Hz for three individual Common Carp.

Locks and dams are possible management points to block the spread of invasive Asian carps in the United States. Infusion of carbon dioxide (CO2) into water is one deterrent strategy being considered at navigational structures to reduce upstream fish passage that would not directly interfere with lock and dam operations. The goal of this study was to determine lethal concentrations of CO2 to non-target species. Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus) and Fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) were exposed to CO2 continuously for 12 hours using a diluter system. Trials were performed on both species at target water temperatures of 5, 15, and 25°C. See related manuscript for additional details on experimental methods.
These environmental DNA data and corresponding water quality data were collected and analyzed by the Fish and Wildlife Service in 2017. The samples were collected from 4 sites in pools 17 and 18 in the Upper Mississippi River on 3 sampling trips. The data was used to study occupancy modeling of eDNA data and determine optimal sampling effort required for reliable detection of invasive Bighead Carp and Silver Carp in streams with similar attributes at the Mississippi River.

Silver carp (Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) are an invasive species in the Mississippi River Basin; understanding their vulnerability to predation as juveniles may inform control by native predators and predator stocking. Digestion of silver carp recovered from diets makes it difficult to determine the size classes most vulnerable to predation by native fishes. The objective of this study was to determine if total length of silver carp can be predicted from the size of their chewing pad, pharyngeal teeth, and pharyngeal arch, the structures most often found intact in diets. Juvenile silver carp (n=136: <180 mm) were collected using 60 hz pulsed- DC electrofishing and mini fyke nets in 2014 and 2015 from the La Grange...

This is collection of multiple datasets for bighead and silver carp from the the Illinois, Ohio, and MIssissippi rivers. This data was collected by researchers, monitors, and managers between 1997 and 2018. Jahn Kallis created this dataset by combining these individual datasets.
This dataset includes the behavioral fish data needed to assess the responses of Upper Mississippi River fishes to an acoustic stimulus (i.e., playback of a 100 hp boat motor). Native ostariophysians (bigmouth buffalo Ictiobus cyprinellus, channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus, and fathead minnow Pimephales promelas), invasive ostariophysians (bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis, common carp Cyprinus carpio, grass carp Ctenopharyngodon idella, and silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix), and native non-ostariophysians (American eel Anguilla rostrata, gizzard shad Dorosoma cepedianum, hybrid striped bass Morone saxatilis, lake sturgeon Acipenser fulvescens, and paddlefish Polyodon spathula) were exposed to a playback...

This dataset accompanies the article "Upstream experience and experimental translocation of invasive bigheaded carps results in increased upstream passage success at a navigation lock in a large river". The data come from the experimental capture and tagging of invasive bigheaded carp with acoustic transmitters and physically moving some groups farther downstream. These transmitters emit signals that are detected and recorded on receivers that are strategically placed above, within, and below Mississippi River Lock and Dam 19 (LD 19). Once the data from the receivers were downloaded, we could show when successful upstream passage through LD19 occurs and compare the origin of the fish and the physical characteristics...

To evaluate how bigheaded carps move upstream through and around Starved Rock Lock and Dam (SRLD) on the Illinois River, their movements were monitored using acoustic telemetry. This dataset describes the results of this study and was used to compare the residency duration of upstream migrants downstream of SRLD between years, tailwater elevation, and water temperature, and how tailwater elevation and water temperature influenced their timing of arrival downstream of SRLD. Calculation of passage and residency are available in the thesis of Matthew Lubejko (Southern, Illinois University, 2016).

We combine cell assays and metabolomics to create a powerful tool, which emerges to elevate the identification of new control chemicals. We combined the use of bigheaded carp fry cell line with metabolite profiling to describe the dose response to thiram. Thiram is a registered pesticide commonly used as a fungicide in the field or as a seed protectant and is known to be toxic to fish. Seven concentrations of thiram were used to dose bighead carp fry cells and silver carp fry cells. We identified 700 metabolomic markers and 41 of those markers exhibited a dose response to thiram in the bighead carp fry cells. We identified 1590 metabolomic markers with 205 of those markers exhibited a dose response to thiram in...
