This file contains information on seasonal snow cover and water availability on long-term shorebird monitoring plots including date and time, location, and relative cover of snow, water, and land.A portion of these data are available on the NSF Arctic Data Center (https://doi.org/10.18739/A23R0PT35).The data providers have invested considerable effort in QA/QC, but it is possible that undetected errors remain. It is strongly recommended that careful attention be paid to the contents of the metadata file associated with these data to evaluate data set limitations, restrictions, or intended use. The originators of this dataset shall not be held liable for improper or incorrect use of the data described and/or contained...

This file provides information on shorebirds observed during 10-minutes point counts including date and time, location, weather information, and shorebird observations. These data do not represent all locations where specific avian species may be present, as surveys only occurred in discrete survey plots. Additionally, individual birds may have went undetected within survey plots, as detectability was likely less than 100%, and is a function of many variables, including differences in species, habitat, time-of-year, weather conditions, survey effort, and individual surveyor. The data providers have invested considerable effort in QA/QC, but it is possible that undetected errors remain. It is strongly recommended...

The primary objective of this project was to monitor the growth of shorebird chicks by recapturing them from hatch to fledgling in relation to food abundance and weather conditions. In 2014 and 2015, we attempted to estimate the impacts of trophic mismatch by experimentally creating late hatched broods by refrigerating eggs to delay hatch. Transmitters were then attached to adults and chicks to follow and recapture chick in order to estimate growth rates and survival (see annual protocol documents for further information).Information for the Utqiagvik chick monitoring study were obtained concurrently with information obtained for the Utqiagvik shorebird project and information on chicks and nests included in these...

R code that takes in the nest capture history data (chdata.csv), reformats it for model fitting in Program Mark via the R package RMark. A series of models of increasing complexity are fit and compared using AIC. Output is written to text files for each model but is generally not used or saved. Code can be run to generate model results and R workspaces/ object to inspect parameter estimates. The primary purpose of this code is to explore model structures for predicting detection and as an attempt to reproduce historically used parameter estimates in past nest plot reports (e.g., Fischer et al. 2017 and earlier). Results from ‘Model 7’ are most similar to detection estimates used in the past.

This is the YKD egg observation data reformatted from the nest card data (‘Nest_Cards_1985_2019_QC.csv’). The file eggs.R is used to produce this data set, and then this is further summarized into yearly stats on mean initiation and hatch dates to produce the file yearstats.csv.

This layer represents agricultural resource priorities in the Highlands region. This layer is intended to inform grant proposals for the Highlands Conservation Act. The Highlands Conservation Act authorizes the Secretary of the Interior to provide financial assistance to the States of Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania (Highland States) to preserve and protect high priority conservation land in the Highlands region. This layer ranges from 0 to 8, with 8 being highest priorities for agricultural preservation in the Highlands Region. The layer scores all 30m cells that are, or were, in agricultural use in 2016 or 2021 based on the 2021 NLCD layer (classes 81 and 82). Cells with prime, state, and local/unique...
The Bluestone sculpin (Cottus sp.) is a priority at-risk freshwater fish endemic to the Bluestone River system in Virginia and West Virginia. The species occurs in small, cool streams with gravel and rubble dominated substrates. The taxonomic status of the Bluestone sculpin is unresolved, and its range often overlaps with congeners, with which it may hybridize. To address the conservation status of the Bluestone sculpin, taxonomic analyses are needed to fully describe the species and evaluate the level of hybridization. Additionally, comprehensive surveys and genetic analyses are needed to determine the species range and population connectivity. Locating the species using eDNA may be a viable option.

This project is an annual communicating memo explicitly designed to inform the Pacific Flyway Representative of waterfowl survey results for incorporation of the data into harvest management reports and regulatory processes. This memorandum is additionally shared widely with partners outside the USFWS. The major products are an annual reporting memo–automatically generated from an R Quarto document, and 19 species-specific comma delimited table files that appear in the memo, and the generating R (.rmd) code.

Dusky Canada geese (Branta canadensis occidentalis) comprise one of the smallest populations of geese in North America and their breeding range is limited to Prince William Sound, primarily the Copper River Delta, and Middleton Island, Alaska. The Alaska Region of Migratory Bird Management initiated an aerial breeding pair survey on the Copper River Delta in 1986 after reported declines in the abundance of dusky Canada geese on their nesting and wintering grounds. Since 2008, the Pacific Flyway Council uses results of the aerial breeding pair survey, together with Middleton Island ground counts conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, as a management index to determine optimal hunting regulations. Survey...

EstimatesTableWBPHS_20220125.csv is a table of bird abundance estimates by year and species, 1957-2021. It was produced by MBM-AK using AKaerial R code and the WBPHS_AK QC transcribed dataset. The date in the file name (format = YYYYMODA, where YYYY = year, MO = month, and DA = day) represents the date that the R code was run to produce the table. A data dictionary and details on analysis methods are provided from the R package AKaerial and are also available within that package, see https://github.com/USFWS/AKaerial.

This geopackage contains the density strata that were used to create the Alaska Arctic Coastal Plain Aerial Breeding Pair Survey four-year rotating panel design. This file was derived from a mid-1980’s ArcInfo coverage for the North Slope Eider Survey that was produced through the visual interpretation of 1:250,000-scale LANDSAT imagery and the known nesting density waterfowl in the area.

This is an update for crews heading into the field. Gives some detail on the season phenology and crew assignments. Used in conjunction with the document Field_Protocol_Distance_Sampling_20220506.pdf, which describes the distance sampling protocol, and the document YDNC_2022_map_20220419.pdf, which describes crew areas within the survey area.

This is a zip folder of geographic line data in three formats that represent the distance sampling transects. All these were produced from the Rmarkdown code found in the file YKD-sample-frame.Rmd. All coordination reference systems are in EPSG:4326. The overall survey area is define as the YKD nest plot survey area, found under the MBM project mbm7wa_002 at https://www.sciencebase.gov/catalog/item/6452f8a7d34eefd5da83c5ff.
