Dissolved noble gas data were collected using a portable mass spectrometer mounted on inflatable rafts on the Colorado River near Glenwood Springs, Colorado and the Virgin River near La Verkin, Utah. Data were collected approximately every 3 to 10 minutes for a suite of noble gases including helium (He), neon (Ne), argon (Ar), krypton (Kr), and xenon (Xe). Patterns in observed dissolved He concentrations were used to locate diffuse discharge of saline geothermal water, which commonly have elevated He concentrations. Diffuse groundwater discharge can be difficult to locate and quantify, and the dissolved He signals are a novel approach to understanding diffuse geothermal discharge to rivers. Dissolved He data were...
This data release consists of daily mean streamflow, daily mean suspended sediment concentration (SSC), and daily mean suspended sediment load (SSL) data for selected U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) streamgage sites within the Fountain Creek watershed, separated by water year. Each file also includes USGS approval levels and any associated qualifiers that were applied to the values. The daily mean SSC and daily mean SSL were calculated using the program, Graphical Constituent Loading Analysis System (GCLAS) , and are publicly available in the USGS National Water Information System (NWIS) database. Methods used in GCLAS to calculate daily mean SSC and SSL will not be discussed in this data release (see: User's manual...

To better characterize the water supply capacity of Clear Creek Reservoir, Chaffee County, Colorado, the U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Pueblo Board of Water Works and Colorado Mountain College, carried out a bathymetry survey of Clear Creek Reservoir. The bathymetry data of the reservoir is presented here in a 1-foot grid. The bathymetry survey was carried out June 6–9, 2016, using a man-operated boat-mounted, multibeam echo sounder integrated with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and a terrestrial survey using real-time kinematic (RTK) Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). The two collected datasets were merged and imported into geographic information system software. The equipment and...
These data have been collected as part of a cooperative project between the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the U.S Environmental Protection Agency. This project began in 2016 and consisted of a mesocosm experiment quantifying short term responses by a transplanted natural diatom dominant algae community exposed to gradients of nitrogen, phosphorous, and a mixture of both nitrogen and phosphorus. The data consist of water quality parameters such as temperature and pH as well as aqueous nutrient concentrations and algae responses, including chlorophyll a concentrations, algae dry mass, algae ash-free dry mass, and intra-cellular phosphorus and nitrogen in algae. Algae growth rates were estimated from these data...
This data release supports the following publication: Mast, M. A., 2018, Estimating metal concentrations with regression analysis and water-quality surrogates at nine sites on the Animas and San Juan Rivers, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2018-5116. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), developed site-specific regression models to estimate concentrations of selected metals at nine USGS streamflow-gaging stations along the Animas and San Juan Rivers. Multiple linear-regression models were developed by relating metal concentrations in discrete water-quality samples to continuously monitored streamflow...

This dataset contains cross-section surveys of the Gunnison River at Colorado Department of Transportation bridges I-04-K and I-03-A, western Colorado, 2016–17. The surveys were performed using a combination of: Trimble R8 Real-Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System (RTK-GNSS) receiver, a USGS bridge crane with sounding weights, and optical levels. During surveys performed in 2016, a base was established at each bridge using the RTK-GNSS equipment. Subsequent surveys of channel geometry were performed using optical levels for ground surface observations above the water line and sounding weights for streambed observations below the water line, referenced to the base established in 2016. Streambed elevations...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) installed and operated several flood and debris flow warning gages within or downstream from the Spring Creek burn scar, Colorado, U.S.A. The warning gages were operated during several years post fire (2019-21) in cooperation with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The USGS warning gages were part of a larger post-wildfire hydrometeorological observatory, comprised of both remote-sensing and in-situ instrumentation. In-situ measurements of precipitation, river surface velocity, and river stage measurements collected at USGS warning gages during select storms in 2019 and 2021 are presented in this data release. These data were used to validate estimates of rainfall...
