Mineral-resources geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) carried out a helicopter-supported geological and geochemical resource assessment project in the Gulkana, Healy, Mount Hayes, and Talkeetna Mountains quadrangles from July 29 through August 16, 2013. The objectives of this assessment were to improve the publicly-available geological, geophysical, and geochemical data in the area of known occurrences in the Mount Hayes Quadrangle, and to extend this coverage and any gained insight westward into the less-explored extension of the Wrangellia terrane. This program of stream-sediment, pan-concentrate, and rock sampling was conducted as part of the State's Strategic Minerals...

The State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals (SCM) Assessment project, a State-funded Capital Improvement Project (CIP), is designed to evaluate Alaska's statewide potential for SCM resources. The SCM Assessment is being implemented by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS), and involves obtaining new airborne-geophysical, geological, and geochemical data. For the geochemical part of the SCM Assessment, thousands of historical geochemical samples from DGGS, U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and U.S. Bureau of Mines archives are being reanalyzed by DGGS using modern, quantitative, geochemical-analytical methods. The objective is to update the statewide geochemical database to more clearly...

From June 12-21, 2017, the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) geologists carried out geologic mapping and geochemical sampling in the northeastern Tanacross D-1, and parts of the C-1, and D-2 quadrangles. The project area lies within the Yukon-Tanana Uplands, and encompasses the boundary between Fortymile and Lake George assemblages. It includes porphyry copper-molybdenum-gold deposits and prospects including: Taurus, Fishhook (also known as SW Pika), and Pika Canyon, and is adjacent to the Fortymile Mining District to the north. Highlights of this geochemical report include sampling and characterization of the Pika Canyon, Fishhook, and Taurus prospects. This dataset contains four samples...

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling northeast of Fairbanks in the Circle A-4, A-5, B-4, and B-5 quadrangles, Alaska from May 31 to June 28, 2007. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. During 2007, 128 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, and 44 rock samples were collected for whole rock (major- and minor-oxide) analysis. Petrogenetically important trace-elements will be analyzed in a subsequent study to...

Re-analyses of sample pulps and bulk rejects from historic USBM rock and heavy-mineral-concentrate samples were conducted by the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) as part of the State of Alaska's Strategic and Critical Minerals Assessment project, which is designed to evaluate Alaska's potential for these resources. The objective of this resource assessment is to expand the state's geochemical database by obtaining and publishing modern, quantitative geochemical analyses for historic USBM samples, where available. Highlights of this re-analysis project include heavy mineral concentrates with up 7,220 ppm Sn, 5,870 ppm Cr, and 17,000 ppm Mn.

The geochemical analyses in this report result from the reanalysis of 932 archived stream-sediment pulps from the northern Fairbanks D-1, northern Fairbanks D-2, Fairbanks D-3 and southern Livengood A-1 and A-2 Quadrangles. The original geochemical data set included 1013 stream-sediment samples, (Albanese, 1982a-c).

Mineral-resources personnel from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys carried out a geological field survey, including mapping and sampling in the eastern part of the Bonnifield mining district in the Fairbanks A-1, A-2, Healy D-1 and D-2 quadrangles, Alaska from June 16 to July 18, 2008. The fieldwork provides basic information critical to building an understanding of Alaska geology and is part of an integrated program of airborne geophysical surveys followed by geological mapping. During 2008, 242 rock samples were collected for geochemical trace-element analysis, 106 rock samples were collected for whole rock (major- and minor-oxide and petrogenetically important trace element) analyses, and...

In 2016, geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) and University of Alaska Fairbanks carried out a two-part geologic mapping and geochemical sampling project in the Tok River area of the Tanacross A-5 and A-6 quadrangles (June 12-26 and July 8-26). This report provides results of stream-sediment sampling for trace-element geochemistry. An initial suite of sediment samples was collected from streams draining known gold occurrences, including the Stibnite Creek and Noah prospects, and numerous prospects in the White Gold area. These samples were split in half and the two splits were sieved to -200 mesh and -80 mesh, respectively. The splits were then both analyzed to determine...

During the 2017 field season, geologists from the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys (DGGS) conducted geologic mapping and sampling of part of the Richardson Mining District southeast of Fairbanks, including parts of the Big Delta B-4, B-5, and C-5 quadrangles. The project area is about 30 miles west of the Pogo gold mine and covers the currently active Montecristo and Uncle Sam gold-exploration properties. The goal of DGGS's work in this area is to conduct a mineral-resource assessment and to build an improved understanding of the area's geology and controls on gold mineralization to facilitate industry exploration targeting. This report is based on 17 days of fieldwork completed June 23-July 3,...

The objectives of DGGS's resource assessment are to improve the trace-element geochemical coverage of selected watersheds; to obtain modern, quantitative geochemical analyses; to understand the petrogenesis of the granites; and to better document established mineral occurrences. Stream-sediment, pan-concentrate, and rock sampling were conducted as part of the State's Rare Earth Elements and Strategic Minerals Assessment project, which is...

This collection contains 89 samples of fine-grained stream sediment collected throughout the Denver West 1:100,000 quadrangle in 1994 by a USGS team to study the concentration and distribution of uranium in surface waters and stream sediments. This research is described in Scientific Investigations Report 2007-5246 (Zielinski et al., 2008). Samples are stored in cardboard tubes in plastic bins and cardboard boxes on one wood pallet.
