This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) data release provides the data used to predict areas with the greatest probability of ephemeral stream channel instability on north side of the Grand Valley in western Colorado, during 2018-20. The USGS developed a method for automatically extracting channel cross-section geometry from existing remotely sensed terrain models. Based on estimated flood stage and surrogate streamflows, hydraulic characteristics were calculated. The channel geometries and hydraulic characteristics were used to estimate channel stability using a statistical model. This collection of files contains temperature data files (.ttd files) downloaded directly from Tiny Tag devices, as well exported temperature data as .csv files for each nest monitored with Tiny Tags by year. File names include Tiny Tag number, site, year, and nest ID..ttd files can be viewed using Tinytag Explorer. Note, however, that the times displayed by Tinytag Explorer are calculated when the data is displayed and depend on the daylight saving settings of the PC at that time. For example, if a .ttd file is opened before and after DST settings change, then all times displayed by Tinytag Explorer will go forward or back. Wind speed, wind direction (3D) and gas concentrations are measured at 10 Hz and statistically processed using the eddy covariance technique to half-hour estimates of flux rates of gas exchange between the ecosystem and atmosphere. Three gases were measured: carbon dioxide, methane and water vapor. Simultaneous measurements of environmental drivers are also measured and recorded as half-hourly values: photosynthetic photon flux density, downwelling and upwelling short and long wave radiation, air temperature, relative humidity and precipitation. Variable names and units follow AmeriFlux and FLUXNET standards. This site is a saltwater herbaceous marsh near Lake Hermitage, LA and Barataria Bay.

This data release contains groundwater level trend results from 110 U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) observation wells in and near the Delaware River Basin. Mean annual groundwater level elevations from water years 2000-2020 were computed from mean daily recorded groundwater levels and discretely measured groundwater levels. Both time series were analyzed using the Mann-Kendall test for monotonic trend and the Thiel-Sen slope. Wells are completed in both confined and unconfined aquifers. Data include well identification number, latitude, longitude, aquifer type, trend slopes and p-values for both mean annual time series at 110 wells.

Surface water samples (n = 33) were collected in fall of 2023 at stream sites in Scott County Iowa, USA and were analyzed for microbial source tracking markers by quantitative polymerase chain reaction at the Laboratory for Infectious Disease and the Environment (LIDE). Microbial source tracking markers identify fecal sources of contamination by detecting microbes that are specific to certain animals. Cooperators include Partners of Scott County Watersheds, Prairie Rivers of Iowa, and U.S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service.

Daily maximum water temperature predictions in the Delaware River Basin (DRB) can inform decision makers who can use cold-water reservoir releases to maintain thermal habitat for sensitive fish species. This data release contains the forcings and outputs of 7-day ahead maximum water temperature forecasting models that makes predictions at 70 river reaches in the upper DRB. The modeling approach includes process-guided deep learning and data assimilation (Zwart et al., 2023). The model is driven by weather forecasts and observed reservoir releases and produces maximum water temperature forecasts for the issue day (day 0) and 7 days into the future (days 1-7). This metadata record documents a set of 118 comma delimited files and a data dictionary describing the inputs for the U.S. Geological Survey Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) which is used to drive the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) for the United States-Canada transboundary domain. The National Hydrologic Model database contains parameters for hydrologic response units (HRUs) and stream segments needed to run the NHM. These parameters are generated using python scripts to process input datasets such as digital elevation models, soil maps, and land cover classifications. This NetCDF represents the monthly inputs and outputs from a United States Geological Survey water-balance model (McCabe and Wolock, 2011) for the conterminous United States for the period 1895-01-01 to 2020-12-31. The source data used to run the water balance model is based on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's(Vose and others, 2020) ClimGrid data for precipitation and temperature. A hydro-economic model was developed by coupling a three-dimensional groundwater flow model of the Harney Basin, southeastern Oregon (using MODFLOW 6) with a hedonic agricultural economic model. The hydro-economic model was used to investigate a set of hypothetical future scenarios having different groundwater pumpage conditions. The model looked at conditions 30 years beyond the 2018 conditions at the end of the HBGM transient simulation. Anaerobic microcosm experiments were conducted in April-May 2018 with PFAS-contaminated soil from a U.S. Army installation (Fort Drum, New York) and simulated groundwater. All microcosms, except for a live sediment control, were amended with perfluorooctanesulfonate (PFOS), perfluorooctanoate (PFOA), and 6:2 fluorotelomer sulfonate (6:2 FtS). Replicate treatments were prepared with and without bioaugmentation with the WBC-2 dehalogenating culture and with and without addition of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane and trichloroethylene). In January 2024 adult monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758)) were found dead near their overwintering site in Pacific Grove, Monterey County, California, USA. Ten of the deceased monarchs (six females and four males) were collected from three sites by staff at the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History and sent to the U.S. Geological Survey Organic Chemistry Research Laboratory for analysis.
