This coverage includes arcs, polygons, and polygon labels that describe the generalized geologic age and rock type of surface outcrops of bedrock of the Australia and New Zealand area (Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Tonga and Vanuatu; and portions of Indonesia, Papua New New Guinea and Solomon Islands). It also includes shorelines and inland water bodies.

This coverage includes arcs, polygons and polygon labels that describe U.S. Geological Survey defined geologic provinces of Southeast Asia (Brunei, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam; and parts of Australia, China and Taiwan). Each province has a set of geologic characteristics distinguishing it from surrounding provinces. These characteristics may include the dominant lithologies, the age of the strata, and the structural style. Some provinces include multiple genetically-related basins. Offshore province boundaries are defined by the 2000 meter bathymetric contour.

Locations of oil and gas wells in 11 western states. Data was obtained from the National Oil and Gas Assessment.
We examined bird and bat mortality at a new 89-turbine windfarm constructed in an environmentally sensitive area in north-central Iowa. The windfarm became operational in November 2001. It is located in cropland between three Wildlife Management Areas (WMA's) with historically high bird use. In the past, migrant and resident waterfowl, shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds moved between the WMA's through the area now occupied by the windfarm. Studies of bird collision mortality in California and elsewhere raised concerns about the possibility of mortalities in this area. From April 15, 2003 and December 15, 2003 we searched for dead animals under 26 randomly selected turbines. Six 76.2 m by 3.0 m transects were maintained...

This project was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using geothermal effluents for developing and maintaining waterfowl wetlands. Information in the document pertains to a seven State area the West where geothermal resources have development potential. Information is included on physiochemical characteristics of geothermal effluents; known effects of constituents in the water on a wetland ecosystem and water quality criteria for maintaining a viable wetland; potential of sites for wetland development and disposal of effluent water from geothermal facilities; methods of ‘disposal of effluents, including advantages of each method and associated costs; legal and Institutional constraints which could affect geothermal...

The Wyoming statewide time-stamped oil and gas wells shapefile was developed to provide a historical perspective of drilling activity for the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI). This product approximates start and stop dates for each well in Wyoming based on database attributes. These data originated from the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (WOGCC). Data represent 120 years of oil and gas drilling (1900 to 2020) and will facilitate a landscape-level approach to integrated science-based assessments, resource management, and land-use decision making. Oil and gas data from WOGCC were used in a dataset previously published by Biewick in 2010 (https://pubs.usgs.gov/ds/625/). This product expands...

Sagebrush ecosystems and wildlife that depend on them are under pressure from development, changing climate, as well as natural and human-caused disturbance. Mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus) are of particular concern due to population declines across many western states. We initiated a study to evaluate landscape-level changes ( disturbances, habitat treatments, development, and climate change) in Wyoming. This dataset contains age ratios (the number of juveniles to adult female mule deer) for 36 herd units in Wyoming, USA from 1985-2019. Age ratios provide a consistent metric of population demographics, including an index of recruitment (survival rate of young), which can be a sensitive metric of population change....

This coverage includes arcs, polygons and polygon labels that describe U.S. Geological Survey defined geologic provinces of the Far East (China, Mongolia, North and South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and parts of Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam).

NOTE: RESTRICTED DATA. The U.S. Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is working with other federal and state agencies and the pipeline industry to create a National Pipeline Mapping System (NPMS). The NPMS is a full-featured geographic information system (GIS) containing the location and selected attributes of the major gas transmission and hazardous liquid transmission pipelines, and liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants operating in United States and other offshore entities. Michael Baker Jr., Inc. (Baker), as the primary contractor assumes all responsibilities of the NPMS National Repository regarding NPMS database updates, synchronization, and maintenance....

This dataset represents the producing, dry holes, wildcat wells and wells that have other well type categories other than the ones mentioned previously in Louisiana. These wells were used to create gas and oil field polygons. The field polygons include discovery data, number of producing wells in the field, average measured depth of those well, total gas and oil production from 1977-2014, gas oil ratio (GOR), and field type. Also, included is a table with historic gas and oil production from 1977-2014.

The present paper explores group dynamics and electronic communication, two components of wicked problem solving that are inherent to the national security environment (as well as many other business environments). First, because there can be no ‘right’ answer or solution without first having agreement about the definition of the problem and the social meaning of a ‘right solution,’ these problems (often) fundamentally relate to the social aspects of groups, an area with much empirical research and application still needed. Second, as computer networks have been increasingly used to conduct business with decreased costs, increased information accessibility, and rapid document, database, and message exchange, electronic...
This report presents the results of a social cost evaluation of three prospective photovoltaic electricity supply technologies. The technologies--based on cadmium sulfide, silicon, and gallium arsenide--are compared with each other and with coal in three categories of direct social impacts: occupational and public health and environmental effects. Indirect impacts, due to opportunity costs and benefits, or to health or other effects of use of material, labor or energy itself, are also considered. Special attention is given to regulatory issues that will arise in connection with these social costs and to their potential importance to government programs and commercial development.

The the Williston Basin has been a leading petroleum producer for over a half century with development beginning around the turn of the 20th century. The spatial and temporal spread of the associated wells is important from both an economic perspective but also a natural resource view. These data were gathered from the state/province oil and gas divisions for use by USGS researchers and their collaborators in water resource specific studies. Each state/province provides slightly different information for each well, with some providing more information and others less. We attempted to create a spatial cross-walk that allowed each database to be merged to one another to create a final regional spatial database. Each...
