Grain size analysis using an Advantech Sonic Sifter Separator was conducted as part of a study examining the occurrence of chromium and natural and anthropogenic hexavalent Chromium, Cr(VI) in groundwater. Data will be used to estimate naturally-occurring background Cr(VI) concentrations upgradient, near the plume margins, and downgradient from a mapped Cr(VI) contamination plume near Hinkley, CA (Izbicki and Groover, 2016). Following field collection the samples were sieved into the greater than and less than 2 millimeter size fractions. The less than 2 millimeter fraction was sifted into seven grain size ranges. Each size fraction was weighed to 0.1 grams and photo documented. The cooperator for this study is...

This data describes the relative luminescence units and relative fluorescence units of lysates of two estrogen responsive chemically-activated luciferase expression human breast VM7Luc4E2 and VM7LucERbc9 cells which were exposed for 24 hours to estrone and 17beta-estradiol dilutions alone and in mixture with atrazine or water extracts collected from dilutor tanks during a fish exposure study utilizing estrone and atrazine. The data for corresponding measurements of estrone in the water extracts by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry are also shown. This data also describes relative fluorescence units of bovine serum albumin standards which were used to convert the relative fluorescence units of the cell lysates...

The Permian Basin, straddling New Mexico and Texas, is one of the most productive oil and gas (OG) provinces in the United States. OG production yields large volumes of wastewater that contain elevated concentrations of major ions including salts (also referred to as brines), and trace organic and inorganic constituents. These OG wastewaters pose unknown environmental health risks, particularly in the case of accidental or intentional releases. Releases of OG wastewaters have resulted in water-quality and environmental health effects at sites in West Virginia (Akob, et al., 2016, Orem et al. 2017, Kassotis et al. 2016) and in the Williston Basin region in Montana and North Dakota (Cozzarelli et al. 2017, Cozzarelli...

Geochemical and mineralogic analysis of selected carbonate rock samples collected from seep fields on the RB1903 and AT41 research expeditions in the U.S. Mid- and South Atlantic.Samples were collected as a fingerprint to past hydrocarbon seep activity, fluid source, and depositional environment. Analyses include: Wavelength-dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (WDXRF) major element, Inductively Coupled Optical Emission Spectroscopy/Mass Spectroscopy (ICPOES-MS) major and minor element, and x-ray diffractrometry (XRD) mineralogy. All WDXRF and ICPOES-MS samples were analyzed by the U.S. Geological Survey Minerals Resource Program Analytical Geochemistry facility via its contract laboratory, AGAT Laboratories.XRD samples...

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Timing of Hydrothermal Alteration and Au-Sb-W Mineralization, Stibnite-Yellow Pine District, Idaho'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the mineralization of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the mineralization studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Yellow Pine region, and collection was done by numerous USGS scientists, who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Conditions, mechanisms, and timing of high-grade metamorphism and ductile deformation of the southern segment of the Central Anatolian Ophiolite'. The Ar/Ar data are for samples that record the metamorphic deformation of the ophiolite. The geochronology provides time constraints for the deformation studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Central Anatolian Ophiolite by Molly Radwany and Donna Whitney, who sent them to the USGS for Ar/Ar analysis.

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Genesis of early Neoproterozoic gold deposits, southwestern Amazon Craton, western Brazil'. The Ar/Ar data is for samples that record the mineralization of the area. The geochronology provides time constraints for the mineralization studied in the manuscript. Samples were collected from the Amazon Craton region, and collection was done by Rodrigo Prudente de Melo of the Univ. Federal de Goias, who sent them to the USGS Denver Argon Geochronology Laboratory for Ar/Ar analysis.

Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to analyze acid residues from heavy mineral separates, polished grain mounts, and clays from sampled sediments as part of a study examining the occurrence of chromium and natural and anthropogenic hexavalent Chromium, Cr(VI) in groundwater. Data will be used to estimate naturally-occurring background Cr(VI) concentrations upgradient, near the plume margins, and downgradient from a mapped Cr(VI) contamination plume near Hinkley, CA (Izbicki and Groover, 2016). Results from EDS and SEM are presented as PDF reports and TIFF images. These data are part of a data release including grain size distribution, photographic and associated...

This data release contains analytical data and images for a suite of drill core samples from the Mineral Hill alkaline complex (MHAC), northeastern Wyoming. Geochemistry data include major and trace element analytical results for 103 alkaline igneous rock samples. Images include hand sample photographs of halved core and full thin section images captured in transmitted, plane-polarized and cross-polarized light. Samples are from two core holes drilled by Humble Oil Company in 1970, and subsequently acquired and stored by Felix Mutschler at Eastern Washington University. The two skeletonized (incomplete) drill cores were acquired by the U.S. Geological Survey Geology, Minerals, Energy, and Geophysics Spokane office...

The Marcellus Shale Energy and Environmental Laboratory (MSEEL) field site in Morgantown, WV was established by West Virginia University in order to increase understanding of factors that affect resource recovery and environmental impacts from unconventional oil and gas development. The site, which is located in the Morgantown Industrial Park (MIP) adjacent to the Monongahela River, includes one well pad which hosts four horizontal gas wells that target the Marcellus Shale approximately 7400 ft below ground level. As part of the MSEEL study, the MIP 5H well was drilled in 2015. Water samples were collected from the holding pond used to hydraulically fracture the MIP 5H well (API 47-061-01699), and a time series...

This U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Data Release is focused on the geochemistry of wells within the oil zone and groundwater monitoring wells away from the oiled zone at the National Crude Oil Spill Fate and Natural Attenuation Research Site, Bemidji MN (USA) from 1985-2015. The site located in Beltrami County is where a high-pressure pipeline carrying crude oil burst in 1979 and spilled approximately 1.7 million liters (10,700 barrels) of crude oil into glacial outwash deposits. Researchers and scientists from government agencies, academic institutions, the regulatory community, and private companies have conducted extensive investigations of groundwater geochemistry in hopes of understanding the evolution of plumes...
