The data consists of targeted metabolite analysis (using quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectroscopy;UHPLC-QTOF-MS) of hemolymph from two freshwater mussel species (Lampsilis cardium and L. siliquoidea) from three streams in Indiana. Concentrations of metabolites were modeled by species, stream and sex to determine the influence of each parameter.
Sample Analyses: Samples were analyzed for their trace element chemistry using Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) at the Corman Center for Mass Spectrometry, Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute, New York. After XRF concentrations were determined following the methods laid out in the “X-ray Fluorescence (XRF)” portion of this data release, a small piece (~5 mm by 5-8 mm) was cut from the wavelength dispersive (WDXRF) pellets and mounted on a one-inch glass puck with 25-30 other samples. Samples were polished down to ~0.5 micron with diamond paste and placed in an ablation chamber that holds two sample pucks, 18 reference standards, and a drift monitor on a third puck. Samples were...

This data release compiles the major and trace element analytical results of drill core samples that typify the uranium-copper ore bodies of the Canyon deposit, located about 6.1 miles (10 km) south-southeast of Tusayan, Arizona. The Canyon deposit lies from about 750 to 2,000 ft (230 to 610 m) below the surface at latitude 35.88333 North, longitude -112.09583 West (datum WGS 1984). Energy Fuels, owners and operators of the property, has conducted extensive drilling into the Canyon deposit, which has defined the extent and characteristics of the ore bodies, leading to mine development. On a site visit in February 2018, Energy Fuels generously allowed the authors (U.S. Geological Survey geologists) to examine and...

We developed and tested a new method for in situ characterization and distribution of inorganic particles in biopsied lung tissue from three diverse human subject groups using field emission scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive analyzer. A backscattered electron image of each frame was acquired to locate inorganic particulate matter. The electron beam was deflected to points on the particles in the field of view to acquire an energy dispersive spectrum. The acquired spectra were used to identify the particle type.

Applications of pesticides in agricultural and urban settings play an essential role in increasing crop yields, preserving food and materials, reducing pest-borne diseases, and eradicating or deterring pests. Pesticides are transported from their point of application to environmental media, including surface water. To better understand the fate of fate and transport of pesticides in the environment, analytical methods are necessary to measure pesticides in waters. Herein, a method is described for the extraction and analysis of pesticides and pesticide degradates in filtered surface water and paired suspended sediment samples. Water samples (~ 1 L) are filtered using 0.7 μm glass-fiber filters prior to being extracted...

This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Unmixing multiple metamorphic muscovite age populations with powder X-ray diffraction and 40Ar/39Ar analysis'. The 40Ar/39Ar and electron microprobe data are from samples adjacent to a lower greenschist facies shear zone in western New Hampshire. The geochronology coupled with the electron microprobe data provide a petrochronologic framework for the rocks studied in the manuscript. Sample collection was supervised by Ryan McAleer, Gregory Walsh, and Peter Valley of the USGS.

We developed and tested a new method for in situ characterization and distribution of inorganic particles in biopsied lung tissue from three diverse human subject groups using field emission scanning electron microscopy with an energy dispersive analyzer. The ICP-MS data table provides the concentrations of elements (in parts per billion) analyzed in the filtrate solutions from the tissue digestion method. This step was done to help determine if the phases identified during the in situ examination might dissolve during tissue digestion in a bleach solution.

Fine-grained sediment was collected from the banks of Napa River, Sonoma Creek, and tributaries in March 2018 and from shallow nearshore areas of the northern reach of San Francisco Bay in April 2018. Bulk sediment was dated using activities of short-lived cosmogenic radionuclides (beryllium-7, cesium-137, and lead-210). Contents of potentially toxic metals and source-rock-indicative elements, including rare earth elements, were quantified in the fine fraction of sediment (particles less than 0.063 mm diameter). Ratios of stable carbon-13/carbon-12 isotopes and total carbon to total nitrogen were determined in sedimentary organic matter.
