View on beach immediately south of the Carpinteria Asphaltum mine showing the tar sticking to the Miocene shale and boulders, seaweed, etc., cemented to the shale by the tar. Asphaltum deposits in bluff back of beach. October 16, 1906. Santa Barbara County, California. Published in U.S. Geological Survey. Bulletin 321, Plate III-A, p. 28. 1907.
