Summary

Surface-water supplies are important sources of drinking water for residents in the Triangle area of North Carolina, which is located within the upper Cape Fear and Neuse River Basins. The region has undergone, and continues to undergo, profound increases in population and land use change, which increases the demand on drinking water supplies, the majority of which are drawn from streams and surface reservoirs. Municipal suppliers obtain raw water from reservoirs and rivers in the Triangle area, which encompasses the area between the cities of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, NC.
