Purpose

These data were collected to measure the hydroacoustic backscatter as an index of biomass in the water column. In particular, common forage species of Prince William Sound, for example capelin (Mallotus catervarius), Pacific sand lance (Ammodytes personatus), juvenile walleye pollock (Gadus chalcogrammus), eulachon (Thaleichthys pacificus), Pacific herring (Clupea pallasii) and euphausiids (Euphausiacea), are important to marine food webs because they link primary and secondary producers with higher trophic levels.
