These data are U-Pb sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) geochronology data from quartz porphyry dikes for the study of the Butte mining district, U.S.A. Results of the study are described and interpreted in Lund and others (2018).
The database for the Washington West 30- by 60-minute quadrangle covers an area of approximately 4,884 square kilometers (1,343 square miles) in and west of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The eastern part of the area is highly urbanized, and more rural areas to the west are rapidly being developed. The area lies entirely within the Chesapeake Bay drainage basin and mostly within the Potomac River watershed. It contains part of the Nation's main north-south transportation corridor east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, consisting of Interstate Highway 95, U.S. Highway 1, and railroads, as well as parts of the Capital Beltway and Interstate Highway 66. Extensive Federal land holdings in addition to those in Washington,...
Iron oxide-apatite (IOA) deposits of the Adirondack Mountains of New York locally contain elevated REE concentrations (e.g. Taylor and others, 2019). Critical to evaluating resource potential is understanding the genesis of the IOA deposits that host the REE-rich minerals. As part of this effort, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting bedrock geologic mapping, geochronology, geochemistry, and geophysics in the region. Published and ongoing research demonstrates the spatial association of IOA deposits with the Lyon Mountain Granite Gneiss (LMG), so understanding the relationship of the LMG to the IOA deposits is important for resource evaluation—however the age and origin of the LMG remain contentious. As...

Backscatter electron (BSE) and panchromatic cathodoluminescent (CL) imagery of minerals from samples dated by 40Ar/39Ar are for the study of the Butte mining district, U.S.A. Results of the study are described and interpreted in Lund and others (2018).These data are shared to meet open data requirements.
These 40Ar/39Ar thermochronologic data for biotite, hornblende, and K-feldspar from Butte granite country rock are for the study of the Butte mining district, U.S.A. Results of the study are described and interpreted in Lund and others (2018).
The geologic map database of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park region of Tennessee and North Carolina is a result from studies from 1993 to 2003 as part of a cooperative investigation by the U.S. Geological Survey with the National Park Service (NPS). This work resulted in a 1:100,000-scale geologic map derived from mapping that was conducted at scales of 1:24,000 and 1:62,500. The geologic data are intended to support cooperative investigations with the NPS, the development of a new soil map by the Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the All Taxa Biodiversity Inventory. In response to a request by the NPS, we mapped previously unstudied areas, revised the geology where problems existed, and developed...
These data are for a regional geochronologic study of Mesoproterozoic rocks in the St. Francois Mountains, southeast Missouri. Zircon, plus one sample of titanite, from fifty samples of metaigneous rocks were dated by sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP).

This dataset contains 99 electron microprobe analyses of cassiterite, chalcopyrite, galena, pyrite, sphalerite, and tetrahedrite from seven Sheep Creek drill core samples and one outcrop; and a table that describes the textures, mineralogy, and rock type of 15 thin sections of Sheep Creek drill core and observations from our study and from drill core logging by industry. These data were used to compare this prospect with others in the Bonnifield district. The dataset also contains tables of sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) U-Pb zircon dates, zircon characteristics (crystal shape, external morphology, internal features, color, aspect ratio, and cathodoluminescence zoning), and 139 U-Th-Pb analyses...

These data are for a multidisciplinary study of dikes, country rock, and alteration systems, Butte, U.S.A. Results of the study are described and interpreted in Lund and others (2018). Data included are U-Pb SHRIMP geochronology for quartz porphyry dikes, 40Ar/39Ar thermochronologic data for biotite, hornblende, and K-feldspar from Butte granite country rock, and 40Ar/39Ar thermochronologic data for white mica and K-feldspar from alteration zones around lode veins. Also included are backscatter electron (BSE) and panchromatic cathodoluminescent (CL) imagery of minerals from samples dated by 40Ar/39Ar. These data are shared to meet open data requirements for interpretive report: Lund, K., McAleer, R.J., Aleinikoff,...

These data are for a geochronologic study of emplacement ages for plutons of the Cretaceous Idaho batholith and detrital zircon ages for metasedimentary rocks, west-central Idaho. Zircon from six samples of discrete plutons across a regional transect were dated by sensitive high resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP). SHRIMP U-Pb ages of igneous rocks connect the igneous activity to structural history, crustal depths, and origins of epigenetic gold-silver-antimony-tungsten±mercury mineral deposits. Zircon from four samples of metasedimentary rocks in the southern part of the central Idaho mineral province were dated—three by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICPMS) methods and one by SHRIMP...
