A three-dimensional groundwater flow model using MODFLOW-NWT was developed to evaluate historical and potential stream capture in the lower Humboldt River Basin, Nevada. The Humboldt River Basin is the only river basin that is contained entirely within the state of Nevada. The effect of groundwater pumping on the Humboldt River is not well understood. Tools are needed to determine stream capture and manage groundwater pumping in the Humboldt River Basin. Previous work has demonstrated that the river’s surface-water resource is sensitive to groundwater withdrawals, which have steadily increased since the 1950s for agriculture, municipal, and mining uses. Two-dimensional variably saturated heat and flow models (VS2DH) were used to examine seepage rates along the Birdspring drainage for the purpose of exploring the drainage channel for use in an managed aquifer recharge project. Six transect models were separately calibrated to sediment temperatures observed during episodic runoff events during water year 2017 and 2018. The models were calibrated to unsteady flow conditions, then estimates of seepage losses were made for steady state conditions assuming stage conditions associated with 4 cubic feet per second of imported water. This USGS data release represents supplemental tabular data for an annual groundwater discharge by evapotranspiration (ET) from areas of spring-fed riparian vegetation, Stump Spring and Hiko Springs, Clark County, Nevada, 2016-18. The raw ET dataset contained multiple data gaps that were simulated and gap-filled with the water-level model utility in SeriesSEE, a USGS developed Microsoft Excel® addin. This USGS data release represents tabular data and water-level modeling files for the 16 Pahute Mesa multiple-well aquifer tests conducted from 2009–2014. This dataset represents water-level models used to estimate observation-well drawdown during the 16 multiple-well aquifer tests. Water-level models are organized by aquifer test in zipped files. Water-level models are created using an Excel Add-in called SeriesSEE (Halford and others, 2012). The SeriesSEE Excel Add-in also is inlcuded so that water-level models can be reactivated. Once the SeriesSEE Add-In is loaded into Excel, water-level model files can be activated by opening the file, scrolling to the SeriesSEE toolbar menu, and selecting the "WLM" utility....

From the 2015 water year, the U.S. Geological Survey has collected data to develop a surrogate model for estimating real-time fine sediment particles concentration and loads at Upper Truckee River at South Lake Tahoe, CA (USGS site number: 10336610). These data represent the extent and spatial distribution of irrigated acreage delineated from maximum Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from Landsat scenes in the Walker River Basin, California and Nevada, at five-year intervals from 1975-2010. Evaporation rates were measured at Lake Mead from March 2010 through February 2012 for phase 1 of an evaporation study (Moreo, M.T., and Swancar, A., 2013, Evaporation from Lake Mead, Nevada and Arizona, March 2010 through February 2012: U.S. Geological Survey Scientific Investigations Report 2013–5229, 40 p., http://dx.doi.org/10.3133/sir20135229).
