The dataset represents benthic aquatic macoinvertebrates collected from eight streams to characterize production in Rio Grande cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii virginalis; RGCT) populations throughout northern New Mexico from 2016 through to 2017. The macroinvertebrates were sampled using Hess samplers with a 250 micron mesh and all taxa were identified to the lowest level of taxonomic resolution.

This data is from a survey of participants in four workshops hosted by USGS researchers in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) in communities along the Gulf Coast in 2017. The workshops were part of the Landscape conservation design project, funded separately by the USGS. The current project had no role in identifying or selected coastal managers with whom to speak; that was the responsibility of the Landscape conservation design project and occurred before the involvement of the current project team. These data are particular to the interactions between the Landscape conservation design project team and the particular coastal managers who engaged with their project. The impacts of climate change on cold water species will likely manifest in populations at the trailing edge of their distribution. Rio Grande cutthroat trout (Oncorhynchus clarkii virginalis, RGCT) occupy arid southwestern U.S.A. streams at the southern-most edge of all cutthroat trout distributions; thus making RGCT particularly vulnerable to the anticipated warming and drying in this region. This dataset includes electrical resistance data from a network of 50 data loggers that was installed throughout the Willow-Whitehorse watershed of SE Oregon in September 2014. Data loggers were downloaded in August 2015 and September 2016. These data loggers were used as “electrical resistance” (ER) sensors, following Chapin et al. 2014. The sensors were Onset HOBO Pendant temperature data loggers that were modified to monitor streamflow intermittency and determine the timing of stream drying.

The Sea Surface Temperature (SST) data of the nearshore region of the North Pacific show temperature ranges in degrees C using points whose locations correspond to the centroids of AVHRR Pathfinder version 5 monthly, global, 4 km data set (PFSST V50). The pathfinder rasters are available from the Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC), hosted by NASA JPL. This dataset is a running trend analysis of baseflow from USGS stream gage records from as early as 1911 to 2016 for 23 unregulated streams across the five largest Hawaiian Islands: Kauai, Oʻahu, Molokaʻi, Maui, and Hawaiʻi. First, we separated mean daily flow into direct run‐off and baseflow with the “lfstat” separation procedure in R, which employs the Institute of Hydrology (1980) standard baseflow separation procedure of 5‐day blocks to identify minimum flow, called a turning point. The turning points are then connected to obtain the baseflow hydrograph. This dataset includes spatial location information from 167 temperature data loggers that were installed throughout the Willow/Rock/Frazer watersheds of northern Nevada between July 30 and August 14, 2015. One hundred twelve data loggers were installed in stream channels (some of which were dry), 50 data loggers were installed outside the stream channel to measure air temperature, and 5 data loggers were installed on ridgetops to measure air temperature across the watershed.

This script applies topic modeling to analyze literature trends of climate impacts to inland fish based on the papers within the Fish and Climate Change Database (FiCli, DOI: 10.5066/P9973SMC). Sections 1-8 loaded the .bib file with all of the papers in the database and cleaned the text. This included combining the title/abstract/keywords, removing non-informative words, stemming words, removing punctuation, and forming phrases (ie. climate change to climate_change). Sections 9-10 divided the papers into discrete topics by identifying the ideal number of topics and then using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) modeling and Gibbs sampling to assign topics to each paper. This point shapefile approximates locations within 20 km of the North Pacific Coastline, as defined by the "World Country Boundaries (Generalized)" shapefile distributed by ESRI as part of their Data & Maps data series. They are based on raster data at 4 km resolution. Therefore there are between 3-5 points extending out from each location along the shoreline (at 4 km intervals).
Although climate change is an important factor affecting inland fishes globally, a comprehensive review of how climate change has impacted and will continue to impact inland fishes worldwide does not currently exist. We conducted an extensive, systematic primary literature review to identify peer-reviewed publications with projected and documented examples of climate change impacts on inland fishes globally. In October 2019, as part of our collaboration with a project focused on nexus of climate and viticulture in Arizona, we helped hold two workshops focused on reviewing the 2018-2019 wine grape growing season in Arizona. Workshops were held in two of the main viticulture regions in Arizona: the Verde Valley and Cochise County. Twenty-four people attended the Yavapai County workshop; 9 vineyards were represented but a number of workshop participants were students not representing a vineyard. Climate often drives ungulate population dynamics, and as climates change, some areas may become unsuitable for species persistence. Unraveling the relationships between climate and population dynamics, and projecting them across time, advances ecological understanding that informs and steers sustainable conservation for species.
