This data package documents selected special conditions affecting the magnitude of peak flows at streamgages in Alaska. The data consist of a table of special conditions for selected peak flows and a table of data sources. This dataset resolves ambiguity introduced by historical variations in USGS National Water Information System (NWIS; https://doi.org/10.5066/F7P55KJN) peak-flow code assignment practices or inherent in defining multiple possible conditions for a single code. For peak flows assigned a code 3 or 9 in the NWIS peak-flow database, the special conditions forming the basis for code assignment were (1) snowmelt or (2) a sudden release of water. Sudden releases of water included glacier dammed lake outburst,...

This data package contains 362 digital photos of a walrus haulout location at Cape Greig, on the Alaska Peninsula summer 2023 (2023-05-09 23:01:08 UTC through 2023-11-16 21:01:14 UTC). Photos were taken up to three times daily from a remotely operated camera located on a bluff above the haulout. The camera station was installed in the early spring 2023, prior to arrival of walruses at the site. Images are transferred via satellite link. Version History: First release: June 2023 Revised: January 2024 (ver. 2.0)

This is a child item of the USGS Data Release: https://doi.org/10.5066/F7T43R88 This data package provides data from Pacific Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) tagged with VHF radio transmitters in July 1999 on the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta, Alaska and detected in the following two years during their annual migration. Data include: 1) one table with attributes of the tagged brant, 2) one table with estimated dates of migration events, and 3) seven tables of detection data from radio tracking scans at coastal sites between Alaska and Mexico. Version History: First release: April 2023 Revised: February 2024 (ver. 2.0)

This dataset provides computed remotely-sensed streamflows (RSQ) at river reaches of selected rivers in Alaska. We used the relation between water-surface elevation data derived from satellite altimetry and dynamic surface water extent data derived from LANDSAT and Sentinel imagery data with the Modified Optimized Manning Method Algorithm (MOMMA) to compute remotely sensed streamflows. Data are organized in ZIP packages named for each river reach. Reach-specific details are provided in a README file included in each river reach ZIP package. Depending on the input data available for specific reaches, we used different workflows to estimate river reach width and process the data from river reaches. Each workflow...

The Alaska Resource Data File (ARDF) is a database of mines, prospects, and mineral occurrences in Alaska. It contains information compiled from published and unpublished sources from industry, U.S. Bureau of Mines (BOM), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and other government and private sources. ARDF is not a mining claims database. ARDF is mainly focused on metallic commodities. Common industrial minerals or commodities, such as sand, gravel and crushed stone, and limestone are not included in ARDF, nor are energy minerals such as peat, coal, and oil and gas. However, uranium, thorium, and rare earth elements, as well as some high unit value industrial minerals, such as barite, jade, graphite, and gypsum, are included....

These data are in two tables relating to a die-off of Common Murres (Uria aalge) in the north Pacific, 2015-2016. The tables provide: 1) beach survey locations, date, time, distance surveyed (kilometers), and number of Common Murre carcasses observed during surveys conducted along the coastline of Alaska to document the 2015-2016 die-off of Common Murres coincident with the North Pacific marine heatwave, and 2) Common Murre necropsy results from carcasses collected during the die-off, including: bird identification number, collection date, collection location, and body and tissues measurements. Version History: First release: January 2020 Revised: June 2024 (ver. 2.0)

These data are daily summary checklists of all bird species observed at U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center (ASC) field camps. Data include species observation details such as observers, dates, location, and number of individuals seen. Field camps were located in Northern, Western, Interior, Southwest, Southcentral, and Southeast Alaska, Baja California Sur Mexico, and northern Russia. These data are in two tables relating to fall age ratios (number of juvenile birds : total birds aged) of Black Brant (Branta bernicla nigricans) staging in Izembek Lagoon, Alaska, since 1963. The first table is observation data for the age classes of Black Brant during surveys, and associated survey characteristics. The second table contains model-based estimates of age ratios by year along with Standard Error (SE), and 95% Bayesian credible intervals around estimates. These data are part of the Gulf Watch Alaska (GWA) long-term monitoring program. This dataset consists of date, time, and temperature measurements from intertidal rocky sampling sites, including predicted tide height at the time of the reading, which is used to distinguish air from water temperature readings. The data are provided as comma separated values (.csv) files derived from data downloaded from HOBO temperature loggers. This data set contains U-Pb isotopic data and associated ages of detrital zircon from sedimentary and metasedimentary rocks collected in northern Yukon, Canada. The samples were originally collected as part of geological mapping and research conducted by the Geological Survey of Canada. They were recovered from archived collections and sent to the U.S. Geological Survey for analysis of detrital zircon using U-Pb geochronology methods. Detrital zircon grains were separated and analyzed by GeoSep Services (GSS) in 2015 using laser-ablation-inductively-coupled-plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) techniques.
