Summary
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the California State Water Resources Control Board compiled and analyzed data on water production and produced water disposal on land at Midway-Sunset, Buena Vista, Elk Hills, McKittrick, Cymric, South Belridge, North Belridge, and Lost Hills Oil Fields in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley (SWSJV), Kern County, California. Data were compiled from information in state and local agencies databases and cover a period of record ranging from the early 1900's through 2019. Datasets include shapefiles with locations of retention ponds and natural drainage systems used for produced water disposal, total volumes of produced water disposed of at percolation and evaporation ponds, produced [...]

Datasets include shapefiles with locations of retention ponds and natural drainage systems used for produced water disposal, total volumes of produced water disposed of at percolation and evaporation ponds, produced water geochemical data, calculation of pond evaporative water loss, and classifications of groundwater samples as mixing with pond disposal water.

Purpose
These datasets were developed to support produced water disposal investigations at oil and gas fields in the southwestern San Joaquin Valley. All the data analyzed are part of the California State Water Resources Control Board Oil and Gas Regional Monitoring Program and the USGS California Oil, Gas, and Groundwater (COGG) program.
