This metadata record describes a series of tabular datasets containing metrics used to characterize drought for select United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages for the climate years (April 1 – March 31) 1921 to 2020. These streamgages are a subset of those used in Geospatial Attributes of Gages for Evaluating Streamflow, version 2 (GAGES-II, Falcone, 2011) in the conterminous United States (CONUS). These metrics include streamflow percentiles, identified drought events, annual low streamflow, and drought statistics for each event.

Percentiles of monthly gw levels from the National Ground Water Monitoring Netowrk. This folder contains percentiles from the levels record for monthly data from USGS groundwater wells stored in NGWMN. Each of these zip folder contains percentiles calculated on these monthly groundwater levels for the time period specified in the title. Both continuous montitoring sites and tapedowns were condenced to monthly values by taking the first level measurement that occred within the month. Sites with more than 1/3 of month values missing from the time period were excluded. Each daily flow was grouped 2 different ways with flows in the month, and all site values. For each group the percentile/fraction of level ranking...

This dataset includes georeferenced, high-resolution, airborne thermal infrared (TIR) and high-resolution true-color imagery, a polyline shapefile of the channel centerline, a polyline shapefile with TIR sample points for longitudinal stream temperature profiles, and a tabular file with longitudinal stream temperature profiles for the Donner und Blitzen River and its tributaries, Oregon. The aerial TIR surveys were conducted with a helicopter by NV5 Geospatial and are published as 17 raster mosaics in GeoTiff format with a resolution of 0.3 meters (m). The TIR mosaics contain corrected surface temperatures in degrees Celsius (C) (multiplied by 10 to create an unsigned integer pixel type). The longitudinal stream...

This metadata record describes a series of tabular datasets containing metrics used to characterize drought for select United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages in and surrounding the Colorado River Basin for the climate years (April 1 – March 31) 1981 to 2020. These streamgages are a subset of those used in Geospatial Attributes of Gages for Evaluating Streamflow, version 2 (GAGES-II, Falcone, 2011) with some additional USGS streamgages not in the GAGES-II dataset added. The metrics include streamflow percentiles, identified drought events, annual low streamflow, and statistics for each drought event.

A list of stream gages within the conterminous United States that will serve as the initial list of sites (version 1.0) used for streamflow benchmarking of hydrologic models. Sites within this list were chosen based on their presence in the GAGES-II dataset, their availability of modeled streamflow data from the most recent version of the National Hydrologic Model application of Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System v1.0, and their availability of modeled streamflow data from the most recent version of the NOAA National Water Model application of WRF-hydro version 2.1 retrospective dataset.

This metadata record describes a series of datasets containing metrics used to characterize drought for four sets of United States Geological Survey (USGS) streamgages in the conterminous United States (CONUS) for three different time periods between 1921 and 2020 outlined below. The streamgages used are a subset based on the criteria used in Geospatial Attributes of Gages for Evaluating Streamflow, version II (GAGESII, Falcone, 2011). Time periods use climate years, April 1 through March 31. These metrics include streamflow percentiles, identified drought events, annual low streamflow drought statistics, and various attributes for each of those events. These data are arranged here by study group with the following...

This dataset contains groundwater levels data from NWIS in csv files. It also contains various associated files that were used in assembeling and producing this dataset. Additional information regarding NWIS groundwater data can be found here: USGS Groundwater Data for the Nation raw_ground_water_levels_USGS.zip: csv files for each site with GW levels are in the zip folder. These are the files directly from the script downloading the files from NWIS. The file names are the state abbreviation e.g. AK followed by the USGS site name. E.g AK574532152304701.csv Each csv includeds the following variables. datetime: the date time of the observation mm/dd/yyyy filename (e.g AK574532152304701): this field contains...

This metadata record describes a series of tabular datasets containing metrics used to characterize periods of anomalously low storage for select large reservoirs across the Conterminous United States for the climate years (April 1 – March 31) from 1981 to 2020. These data support the associated Simeone and others (2024) publication. The reservoirs in this dataset are those included in the ResOpsUS dataset, with sufficient data during the period of interest. These metrics include reservoir storage percentiles, identified low-storage anomaly events, annual low storages, low-storage anomaly statistics for each event, and trends in reservoir metrics. This data release contains the following files: One version of the...

This dataset contains annual flow metrics quantifying drought and low streamflows for USGS GAGES-2 gages in the contiguous U.S. satisfying data completeness checks for the periods 1921-2020, 1951-2020, and 1981-2020. The dataset also contains annual climate variables from the USGS Monthly Water Balance Model (MWBM). The dataset provides trend analysis outputs for annual drought and low flow metrics for the periods 1921-2020, 1951-2020, and 1981-2020. Finally, we include six R language code files that were used to create the values included in this release as summarized in the process step section.

This metadata record describes data that characterize low-flow period duration and seasonality, as well as trends and climate linkages at streamgages across the conterminous United States. These data are associated with a publication which looks to answer three questions about low-flow periods in the conterminous United States: (1) how long are these periods and when do they typically start and end, (2) how are these properties changing through time, and (3) how does climate influence these properties? These data include 1145 U.S. Geological Survey streamgages with historical periods from 1951-2020. This data release contains the following: 1) low_flow_characteristics.csv: Annual low-flow period characteristics...

This data release contains the D-score (version 0.1) daily streamflow performance benchmark results for the National Hydrologic Model Infrastructure application of the Precipitation-Runoff Modeling System (NHM) version 1 "byObs" calibration with Muskingum routing computed at streamflow benchmark locations (version 1) as defined by Foks and others (2022). Model error was determined by evaluating predicted daily mean streamflow versus observed daily mean streamflow. Using those errors, the D-score performance benchmark computes the mean squared logarithmic error (MSLE), then decomposes the overall MSLE into orthogonal components such as bias, distribution, and sequence (Hodson and others, 2021). For easier interpretation,...
